outreach ministry

As Baptized followers of Christ, we are all called to witness to God's love through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. While each of us must be ready each day to serve our 'neighbor' in our own individual circumstances, we offer the following opportunities for our parishioners to serve communally.

BACKYARD MISSION TRIP

Instead of traveling long distances on a Mission Trip, in the spring churches in the Findlay area gather volunteers to do yard work, painting, and modest house repairs to homes in the community. This project is called the Backyard Mission Trip, and seeks to help out those local residents who are unable—for whatever reason—to do the work themselves.

If you or someone you know would like to be part of this venture, either as a volunteer or if you know a family in need of repairs, please contact the Parish Office at parish@findlaystmichael.org OR 419.422.2646

ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL OUTREACH MINISTRY

Each and every day, people in our community are in need of assistance with their daily necessities. The St. Michael Outreach Ministry provides guidance and assistance, both physical and spiritual, to individuals and families within our parish and the community to help them get back on their feet. Community events are planned four times throughout the year such as cookouts at local nursing homes and grab-and-go lunches. We also help to put shoes on the feet of children who cannot afford school shoes by supporting Project Happy Feet – a Christian Clearing House program.

SHARE THE HARVEST FOOD DRIVE

This is a major outreach program for St. Michael the Archangel Parish that is conducted annually. The goal is to help those who are less fortunate have a Thanksgiving Meal. Anyone in Hancock County is eligible to sign up to receive a food box. Parishioners of St. Michael get involved by donating non-perishable food, making monetary contributions, preparing the boxes, and helping with delivery. Monetary donations are used to purchase gift certificates, and to purchase food from the West Ohio Food Bank. All families receive a gift certificate for the purchase of perishable food items.

LEGION OF ST. JOSEPH:

As an outreach ministry, our vision is to respond to the basic needs of humanity through the Corporal Works of Mercy. Our goal is to quickly connect parishioners in need, with our legion of volunteers who are willing to help.  The mission of this apostolate is to provide “hope through service” by imitating St. Joseph. Our first initiative, St. Joseph’s Kitchen, is to provide meals for families who have had a life change or challenge, so they can focus on their family’s needs without having to worry about preparing meals.  Future initiatives will include service opportunities for yard work, minor home repairs, providing transportation, etc.

How are you called to serve?

Register as a volunteer to receive emails when there are opportunities to serve fellow parishioners in need, and discern if/how you can help on any given request, via the Sign-up Genius event. WALKING WITH MOMS IN NEED (WWMIN)

Walking With Moms in Need (WWMIN) is a nationwide USCCB initiative to increase outreach to pregnant mothers in need. Inspired by St. Pope John Paul II's call to build a culture of life, it was created in 2020 to honor the 25th anniversary of his encyclical Evangelium vitae (The Gospel of Life). Walking With Moms in Need engages parishioners around a life-affirming effort to support mothers facing challenging pregnancies, and supports and expands work already being done while remaining faithful to Catholic teaching. The Walking With Moms in Need initiative at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish is committed to accompanying vulnerable mothers through all challenges while celebrating the joy of motherhood.

To learn more about this apostolate, or request support, pleased contact our WWMIN team by filling out this form.
